The respiratory system is the place in our bodies where the exchange of vital gases takes place. The oxygen that is needed by all our cells for survival is taken into our body via the respiratory system and travels to the alveoli in the lungs where it taken up by the blood and distributed throughout our system . Meanwhile carbon dioxide exits the body through the respiratory system as a waste product in our breath. The system also helps to defend against microbes, traps and dissolves blood clots and influences blood pH.
Problems can arise when this delicate mechanism becomes disrupted in various ways. For example in asthma where the airways over-respond leading to anxious episodes where they are obstructed, or in inflammation of the tracheobronchial tree in bronchitis leading to a cough, tight chest and over-production of mucous.
As a homeopath and holistic practitioner, I view symptoms that arise in the respiratory system, such as sinusitis, pleurisy, tonsilitis, emphysema or COPD, to name but a few, as the body’s attempt to throw off an inner disturbance which the immune system has not been able to overcome and where our balance of health has been lost. Sometimes undealt with, buried emotions can lead to symptoms, for example deep, unresolved grief can affect the lungs causing symptoms. Emotions are however only one possible cause and I work with you to find out when and how your symptoms began and the exact nature of them, in order for homeopathic treatment to stimulate your system to work through the underlying causes to bring resolution to your symptoms, whether acute or more chronic.
For any issues of the respiratory system, the homeopathic prescriptions you are given take into account both the specific symptoms you are suffering as well as your general constitutional type, including any characteristics such as likes and dislikes, temperature control, and other individual factors that reflect you as an individual, in order to stimulate your system to throw off the disturbance.
